I’m excited to finally introduce you to MediaBytes — The Marketing School for Creatives! The idea for this site has been gnawing away at my brain, in one way or another, for at least 5 years.

The idea that artists must somehow suffer in silence to create great art is, excuse my French, complete b.s. I mean, if an artist chooses to suffer in order to realize his vision, that’s one thing.

But the claim that if you want to pursue a career consisting of creating amazing things (visual, aural, prose, or otherwise) is just (IMHO) ridiculous.

This is your brain…

It turns out humans (us) have an amazing (and under utilized) computer in our heads — and it can do some really incredible things. But the cool thing is — it can do more than ONE thing at a time! My point is that you can be an artist, AND get paid well for your art product.

The MediaBytes mission is to provide marketing instruction to creative folk of all types. Wouldn’t it be cool if you could follow your passion, and get paid for it at the same time?

Marketing know-how doesn’t come naturally to everyone, but the thing is, everyone (ok, most people) can learn it. Whether you’re a photographer, a painter, a musician, a poet, whatever, you CAN learn the basic rules of self-promotion and marketing.

MediaBytes is the vehicle by which I can encapsulate and communicate marketing tips and techniques I’ve learned over the past 16 plus years working at companies like Apple, Adobe, Yahoo, and AOL. It’s a place where I can teach you how to exploit;

I like to think of the courses that will be available on the site as somewhat like “jacking into the Matrix”. Remember the scene in the movie The Matrix (the good one)? There was a point when Neo (Keanu Reeves) was being “programmed” with various skills says “I know Kung-fu”. That’s basically my goal for the training you’ll soon find here.
